What does the research say about KPV?

KPV has been investigated in mouse intestinal-inflammation models and laboratory systems; those findings do not establish a treatment benefit in people. AnimalPreliminary12

What is KPV?

KPV is short for lysine-proline-valine, a three-amino-acid sequence discussed in alpha-MSH research. ReviewPreliminary15

The exact molecule matters when reading a paper: a related peptide, modified formulation or delivery system is not automatically interchangeable with the KPV named in a headline.

What has been studied in the gut?

A 2008 paper combined mouse colitis experiments with tests in intestinal and immune-cell lines. The researchers investigated transport through PepT1 and changes in inflammatory signaling. The human-derived cells were laboratory models, not people receiving treatment. AnimalPreliminary1

A separate 2008 investigation studied two mouse colitis models and reported changes in weight recovery, colon histology and inflammatory measures. Its results belong to those experimental conditions. AnimalPreliminary2

These papers provide questions for further research. They do not show that KPV treats ulcerative colitis in patients.

Why do nanoparticle studies need their own context?

Researchers also tested KPV delivery using engineered carriers. A 2010 paper examined a nanoparticle/hydrogel system in mouse colitis. AnimalPreliminary3 A 2017 paper examined hyaluronic-acid-functionalized KPV nanoparticles with cell-targeting and mouse experiments. AnimalPreliminary4

The carrier, test model and measured outcome belong beside the finding. Results from a specific experimental delivery system should not be presented as evidence for every product bearing the peptide's name.

Are there human studies on KPV?

FDA's 2026 briefing identified no human administration evidence for the assessed KPV substances. Official notice17

Our current working register likewise contains no qualifying treatment study in living participants. That is a finding from the records retrieved so far, not a completed literature-wide census.

A paper about KPV delivery across excised human skin is a laboratory study. It does not become a clinical trial because the tissue came from a person. LabPreliminary6

What about the human ulcerative-colitis trial for K(D)PT?

That study tested K(D)PT, a different tripeptide. It is excluded from our KPV human-study count. 23

Check the actual compound in the methods before connecting a trial to a peptide claim.

What did the July committee recommend?

TIME reported a favorable, nonbinding KPV recommendation in July. We label that committee result PROPOSED. 20

FDA staff had recommended against listing; the advisory vote did not itself create a final 503A listing or drug approval. Official notice1719

Why does the evidence meter remain pending?

The source register has not completed its search, identity screening and deduplication. The meter therefore displays METER PENDING, without numbers or filled beads. Reviews organize earlier work and do not add new trial participants.

Key takeaways

  1. Read the model: the core gut papers investigated mice and laboratory cells. AnimalPreliminary12
  2. Read the formulation: engineered delivery systems need their own context. AnimalPreliminary34
  3. Read the compound: the K(D)PT human trial is not a KPV trial. 23
  4. The study census and evidence meter remain pending.
